If You're Unable to Lose Pounds, Here is What To Do!

from:

Can thyroid really affect your body weight? Well, if you are a woman, then the answer is YES. Your thyroid can affect your body weight in ways you might never have imagined! In this article I will tell you how to control this menace.

It all began when I had my first baby. I was all good and healthy before the delivery, but just after I delivered, I began to feel rather tired and clumsy. I didn't find any interest in the activities I used to enjoy previously. I was losing a lot of hair (I thought I was suffering from hair loss, but it was a different case altogether). I was getting irritated very frequently. I became more sensitive to cold than before, so that I had to shift to a different room with all the fans and ACs switched off. I needed blankets and sweaters even when it was not so cold. Worst of all, my skin became very dry and itchy.

One thing I totally forgot to mention is that during this period I also gained a lot of weight. I felt tired and forgetful. I was also suffering from anxiety and depression.

Just to let you know, I followed some of the fad diets out there, but to no avail. Instead of losing pounds, I gained them by leaps and bounds. I became somewhat anorexic. I was afraid of eating because I thought that even my simple act of touching the food would increase my body weight! As you can see, it was probably the worst phase of my life.

When I couldn't tolerate it any longer, I had myself diagnosed by a doctor. He concluded that I was suffering from hypothyroidism, meaning that my thyroid gland was not producing enough hormones needed to keep my metabolic rate high. He indicated the possibility of thyroid cancer, which scared the hell out of me.

Next I visited a thyroid specialist, because I did want to go through a surgery. He basically prescribed some medicines. He said that because of having an inactive thyroid, my metabolic rate was slow and I was gaining weight fast! He prescribed some medicines and also suggested that I reduce my iodine intake, stop taking diet supplements and increase the intake of healthy foods.

Bottom line, if you see that you cannot lose pounds no matter what you do, it is time to visit a specialist just to rule out any possibility of medical complication. It is also important to focus on healthy eating and stray away from fad diets because they are just a waste of time!
